Why we're going to Early Access — and building the game with you
The combat sim is proven and the campaign spine is playable. Here's what Early Access means for Shattered Reaches, and how we'll use the community to shape the road to 1.0.
The foundation is real
Shattered Reaches is not a pitch deck. The deterministic combat sim runs, the campaign saves and loads, ship fitting validates against 140 stock templates, and a multiplayer prototype exists on LAN and public networks. That hard foundation is why we are comfortable talking about Early Access at all — we will only sell the game when the build is worth the price.
What Early Access means here
Early Access is not a paid beta for us. It is a commitment to build the rest of the game in the open, with the community. That means a regular devlog cadence, a public demo and Steam Playtest before paid access, and feedback intake that actually changes the roadmap — combat readability, fog-of-war balance, UI clarity, and officer presentation are all things we expect to adjust with your help.
Our internal gates
We track readiness against a small set of internal gates, and we will not cross into Early Access until the build clears the one that makes the price fair.
How you can help right now
The single most useful thing you can do today is wishlist the game on Steam — it tells the algorithm the game is real, and it tells you when the Playtest opens. After that, follow the devlog and join the community channels as they come online. We read everything.
